RED LIGHT THERAPY BEDS

Spectra Red Light

Full-Body Red Light Therapy Beds, Verified in the Lab

Every bed we build is measured with a lab-certified spectroradiometer before it ships.

A red light therapy bed surrounds your whole body in specific red and near-infrared wavelengths, delivering a complete photobiomodulation session in 10 to 16 minutes instead of focusing on one area at a time.

Spectra designs, engineers, assembles and certifies every bed in the USA, and each unit is individually tested before it leaves the building.

Which one is right for you?

  • Short on space or working with a smaller budget? The S8 Pro Light Wall. Two panels facing each other give you comparable coverage for a fraction of the footprint and cost.
  • Running a business with steady traffic? The S10 Pro. More wavelengths means more services you can offer from one room, and the control tower keeps the electronics away from the client.
  • Buying for a home, a studio or a gym? The S5 Pro. Identical frame and build to the S10 Pro, four core protocols, twenty thousand dollars less.
  • Running a medical or clinical practice? Look at the S11 Pro Med, which has eleven wavelengths, nine protocols, independent top and bottom controls and a Vitamin D3 light protocol at 293nm.

WHAT IS A RED LIGHT THERAPY BED

Red Light Therapy That Covers Your Whole Body

A red light therapy bed is an enclosed, full-body device that delivers specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light across your entire body at once. The clinical name for what it does is photobiomodulation, usually shortened to PBM. Light at these wavelengths is absorbed by your cells and supports the way they produce energy, which in turn supports circulation, recovery and tissue repair.

The defining difference between a bed and every other form of red light device is covered surface area. A handheld wand covers a few square inches. A panel covers one side of your body. A full-body bed with emitters above and below covers everything in a single session, which is why a complete dose takes 10 to 16 minutes instead of an hour of repositioning.

Beds compared to other red light devices

Q

Handheld

A few square inches at a time. Useful for one joint, impractical for a whole body.

Q

Wrap or pad

Contact coverage for one region. Typically far lower output than a bed.

R

Full body panel

Head to toe, but one side at a time. Two facing panels approximate a bed.

Full body bed

Emitters above and below for 360 degree coverage in one 10 to 16 minute session.

What a session actually involves

  • You select a preset protocol on the touchscreen and start the session.
  • A countdown gives you time to get in and close the canopy.
  • Stop N Stay struts on the canopy allow you to adjust the canopy to your convert level, and it will stay in position.
  • The LEDs fade up, run for the programmed duration, then fade out.
  • You can open the canopy and stop at any point.
  • Fans run for roughly a minute afterward to cool the system.

HOW A RED LIGHT THERAPY BED WORKS

Light your cells can actually use

1. Light is absorbed

Red and near-infrared wavelengths pass through skin and are absorbed by structures inside your cells, primarily in the mitochondria.

2. Cellular energy is supported

That absorption supports the production of ATP, the molecule your cells use to do work of every kind.

3. Circulation and repair

Better-resourced cells support blood flow, tissue repair, collagen production and recovery from physical stress.

The wavelengths and what each band does

Different wavelengths are absorbed at different depths and do different jobs, which is why the number of wavelengths a bed carries determines how many goals it can serve. Across the Spectra range, beds carry between five and eleven of the following:

293nm

415nm

528nm

605nm

630nm

660nm

670nm

810nm

830nm

850nm

1064nm

  • 293nm ultraviolet B drives the Vitamin D3 protocol on the S11 Med. Eye protection is required whenever it runs.
  • 415 to 528nm blue and green work at the surface. Blue targets acne-causing bacteria, green supports pain relief and skin tone. Eye protection is required.
  • 605 to 670nm red is the classic photobiomodulation band, supporting skin rejuvenation, circulation and inflammation.
  • 810 to 1064nm near-infrared penetrates deepest, reaching muscle and joint tissue for recovery and pain support. It is mostly invisible to the eye.

More is not always better. Red light therapy follows a biphasic dose response, which means there is an optimal dose (10-16 minutes per session, 3 sessions per week) and going past it gives you less benefit, not more. That is why irradiance and preset protocol durations matter so much, and why a longer session is not automatically a better one.

RED LIGHT THERAPY BED BENEFITS

What people actually use red light beds for

These are the three goals that come up most often, and the wavelengths behind each one.

Woman with healthy skin after red light therapy bed sessions

Skin and appearance

Red wavelengths between 605 and 670nm, supported by near-infrared, are the most studied band for skin. Sessions are designed to support collagen and elastin production, skin tone and texture, and the healing of everyday damage.

  • Anti-aging support for fine lines and skin firmness
  • Skin care for tone, texture and blemish-prone skin
  • Hair support through improved scalp circulation

Blue light at 415nm is included on the S10 Pro and S11 Med for blemish-focused protocols. Eye protection is required whenever blue light is running.

Pain relief and recovery

The deepest-penetrating wavelengths, 810 through 1064nm, reach muscle and joint tissue. Spectra's Pain protocol combines them with green at 528nm.

  • Pain support for chronic and everyday aches
  • Accelerated healing through improved circulation to the area
  • Metabolic support including lymphatic drainage and body contouring protocols
Person moving comfortably after red light therapy bed sessions
Athlete training after red light therapy bed recovery sessions

Performance and energy

The Performance protocol concentrates 660 and 670nm red with 810 and 850nm near-infrared to support the way muscle produces and uses energy.

  • Recovery and reduced soreness after training
  • Strength and endurance support through improved cellular energy production
  • Focus and sleep quality, including brainwave entrainment protocols

The S11 Med adds three entrainment programs that pulse the near-infrared at fixed frequencies: Energy at 24Hz, Balance at 10Hz and Relax at 7.83Hz.

HOW TO CHOOSE A RED LIGHT THERAPY BED

The eight specifications that actually matter

Almost every bed on the market advertises an impressive number somewhere. Very few explain how that number was produced. Work through these eight questions and the field narrows quickly.

1. Verified irradiance

Ask how it was measured, at what distance, and by whom. A number taken at zero inches and one taken at twelve inches are not comparable. Spectra measures every bed with a lab-certified spectroradiometer and publishes third-party lab tests.

2. Wavelength count

A bed with two wavelengths can serve two goals. Spectra beds carry five to eleven wavelengths spanning ultraviolet, blue, green, amber, red and near-infrared, blended into protocols rather than sold as a single number.

3. Coverage

Does light come from above and below, or only one side? One-sided systems require two sessions to treat the whole body, which doubles the time per client and halves the throughput of a commercial room.

4. EMF reduction

Ask where the power supplies sit. Many beds put them directly beneath the user. Spectra moves them into an independent control tower with a Power Harmonizer, or into a shielded enclosure on the S5 Pro.

5. Protocols and dose control

Because of the biphasic dose response, a bed with one on-off setting is a blunt instrument. Spectra beds ship with four to nine clinically formulated protocols plus custom slots for trained operators.

6. Build and cooling

LEDs that run hot die young. Spectra derates its 3W LEDs for cooler operation and a 100,000 hour rated life, uses 150,000 hour cooling fans, clear-span acrylic and premium aluminum, with ISO 9001 manufactured parts.

7. Warranty

Warranty length is the clearest signal of what a manufacturer expects from its own hardware. Spectra beds carry six years top to bottom plus a lifetime LED warranty. The Light Wall carries four years.

8. Regulatory status

Spectra red light devices are FDA Class II cleared under product code ILY, regulation 890.5500.

HOW SPECTRA COMPARES ON IRRADIANCE

Third-party lab results, side by side

Irradiance, or power density, determines how much therapeutic light actually reaches your body. Anyone can advertise a large number. These figures come from independent LightLab testing of each bed.

SAFETY AND WHO SHOULD CHECK FIRST

Using a bed safely

General safety

Some people notice temporary warmth, mild redness or a sense of increased circulation. Every Spectra bed enforces its own power, temperature, channel and pulsing limits automatically, with integrated grounding and circuit protection.

Eye protection

Eye protection is required whenever the Vitamin D3 ultraviolet protocol is running, and is strongly recommended for blue light protocols. It is also recommended for anyone with light sensitivity. Many commercial locations require goggles for every session as standard practice.

Talk to your provider

If you are pregnant, have a photosensitive condition or epilepsy, take photosensitizing medication, have any other light sensitivity, or have an implanted device, talk to your healthcare provider before using red light therapy.

Getting the most from a session: more exposed skin means more covered area, so most people wear little or nothing. Sessions work best on clean skin, because SPF, makeup and light-sensitive ingredients such as retinol can reduce effectiveness. Beds have a 500 pound weight limit and should be installed in a dry, ventilated room.

Spectra Red Light devices are FDA Class II cleared wellness products. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and they are not covered by medical insurance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Still have questions? Take a look at our FAQs

What are nanometers (nm) in Red Light Therapy?

Nanometers measure the wavelength of light emitted by the device. Different wavelengths have distinct benefits.

  • 415nm - 528nm (blue & green light): Targets skin health, reduces acne, and enhances collagen production
  • 605nm - 670nm (red light): Supports skin rejuvenation, circulation, and anti-inflammatory effects
  • 800nm - 1064nm (near-infrared light): Penetrates deeper tissues, aiding in muscle recovery, joint health, and pain relief

What are the best wavelengths for Red Light Therapy?

Clinical research demonstrates that 630, 660, 810, 830, 850, 980, or 1064 nm are among the most researched and most effective red and near-infrared wavelengths. Combining these specific wavelengths offers superior health benefits.

How Long Is A Typical Session?

For a red light bed with clinically calculated irradiance, the average session time is between 12 and 16 minutes.  This is the time required to achieve a clinical dose of approximately 30 J/cm2.

Is It Possible To Overdose?

Yes! Red light therapy has what's called a Biphasic dose response. This means that if you get too much, you can reduce or delete the benefits that you received during the session. This can happen on a per session basis or on a cumulative basis. A full body session every other day is ideal.

How Many Sessions Should I do Per Week?

Based on full-body clinical research, the optimal weekly dosing is 90 J/cm2. That means 3 sessions on a Spectra red light bed will give you an optimal weekly dose.

Can I use Red Light devices while wearing skincare products?

It is recommended to use Red Light Therapy on clean skin. Some skincare products, especially SPF, makeup, or light-sensitive ingredients (like retinol), may reduce the effectiveness of the therapy.

How long does it take see results from Red Light Therapy?

Results vary from person to person. Some people feel profound results after 1-3 sessions of Red Light Therapy, whereas others see results over time, as the benefits of Red Light Therapy are, while others see results over time, as the benefit of Red Light Therapy is cumulative for cellular regeneration.
