Red Light Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM), is a non-invasive therapy that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared (NIR) light to stimulate cellular energy production (ATP), enhance circulation, and support tissue repair. It is widely used for pain relief, muscle recovery, skin rejuvenation, and overall wellness.
How long does it take see results from Red Light Therapy?
Results vary from person to person. Some people feel profound results after 1-3 sessions of Red Light Therapy, whereas others see results over time, as the benefits of Red Light Therapy are, while others see results over time, as the benefit of Red Light Therapy is cumulative for cellular regeneration.
How Many Sessions Should I do Per Week?
Based on full-body clinical research, the optimal weekly dosing is 90 J/cm2. That means 3 sessions on a Spectra red light bed will give you an optimal weekly dose.
Can I use Red Light devices while wearing skincare products?
It is recommended to use Red Light Therapy on clean skin. Some skincare products, especially SPF, makeup, or light-sensitive ingredients (like retinol), may reduce the effectiveness of the therapy.
What are nanometers (nm) in Red Light Therapy?
Nanometers measure the wavelength of light emitted by the device. Different wavelengths have distinct benefits.
- 415nm – 528nm (blue & green light): Targets skin health, reduces acne, and enhances collagen production
- 605nm – 670nm (red light): Supports skin rejuvenation, circulation, and anti-inflammatory effects
- 800nm – 1064nm (near-infrared light): Penetrates deeper tissues, aiding in muscle recovery, joint health, and pain relief
How Often Should I Have A Red Light Session?
Clinical research shows that even after one session, benefits can last up to a month. The maximum number of sessions per week without overdosing is 3. 1 – 3 sessions per week is an ideal goal, with 3 being considered the best based on clincal results.
Are there any side effects to using Red Light Therapy?
No significant side effects have been reported. Some users may experience temporary warmth, redness, or increased circulation in the treated areas.
What are the best wavelengths for Red Light Therapy?
Clinical research demonstrates that 630, 660, 810, 830, 850, 980, or 1064 nm are among the most researched and most effective red and near-infrared wavelengths. Combining these specific wavelengths offers superior health benefits.
How Long Is A Typical Session?
For a red light bed with clinically calculated irradiance, the average session time is between 12 and 16 minutes. This is the time required to achieve a clinical dose of approximately 30 J/cm2.
Is It Possible To Overdose?
Yes! Red light therapy has what’s called a Biphasic dose response. This means that if you get too much, you can reduce or delete the benefits that you received during the session. This can happen on a per session basis or on a cumulative basis. A full body session every other day is ideal.
Why does my Spectra Red Light product give off a color hue different from red?
It is an optical illusion because it also appears green in amber, depending on the selected protocol. When you blend green, amber, and red, it tends to look more yellow.
